Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of creative leadership characteristics of school principals on teachers' innovative work behavior in educational institutions. For this purpose, the research was carried out with the relational screening model. The research was applied to 235 people who teach in Konya and its districts. It is thought that the creative leadership characteristics of school principals are effective on teachers' innovative work behaviors. Based on this context, in this study, the effect of school principals' creative leadership characteristics on teachers' innovative work behavior was examined. “Creative Leadership Characteristics Scale of School Principals” developed by Sağlam and Uçar (2019) and “Innovative Business Behavior Scale” developed by Janssen (2000) and adapted to Turkish in Töre (2017) were used in the research. According to the research results; According to the perceptions of the teachers, it was determined that the creative leadership characteristics and innovative work behaviors of the school principals were above the average. When the answers given by the teachers to the questions in the scale were analyzed, as a general view, the perceptions of the school principals regarding their creative leadership were above the medium level, while the Entrepreneurship and Effective Communication sub-dimension was at the highest average. When teachers' perceptions of innovative work behavior are examined, the idea support sub-dimension is at the highest level, while the other sub-dimensions (idea generation and implementation) and overall scale perceptions are above the medium level. It has been revealed that men's perception of the difference sub-dimension in their creative leadership characteristics is higher than women's. In addition, it was revealed that men's perception of the Idea Generation and Implementation sub-dimension was higher than women's. It has been determined that the Creative Leadership Characteristics of the School Principals and the Perceptions of the Innovative Work Behavior of the Teachers do not change according to the teachers' age, professional experience and whether they have received innovation training before. The Creative Leadership scale of the participants' School Principals' Difference sub-dimension significantly affects the teachers' perceptions of Innovative Business Behavior. According to the results of the correlation analysis of the effect of the creative leadership of the school principals on the innovative work behavior of the teachers, a significant and positive relationship was found between the creative leadership characteristics of the school principals and the general and sub-dimensions of innovative work behavior. These results show that school principals' creative leadership characteristics and teachers' innovative work behavior perceptions reflect a relationship. In addition, the difference sub-dimension of creative leadership, which is the best predictor of innovative work behavior, was found. This result shows that; Teachers are influenced by creative leaders who think differently from those around them and can produce different solutions to the problems that arise at school, and they can exhibit innovative work behavior at the same level.
